Hans T Björnsson, MD, PhD – CEO

Dr. Bjornsson is a Professor of Translational Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Iceland, as well as the Chief of the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology at Landspitali. Additionally. He has kept a dual appointment with Johns Hopkins University, USA and was promoted to full Professor of Genetics and Pediatrics in 2026.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland before obtaining a Ph.D. in human genetics from Johns Hopkins’ predoctoral program in genetics. He then completed combined clinical training in pediatrics and clinical genetics at Johns Hopkins.

In 2012, Dr. Bjornsson joined the faculty at the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics, where he established a clinic specializing in imprinting disorders and Mendelian disorders of the epigenetic machinery (Epigenetic and Chromatin Clinic). He later joined the Biomedical Center at the University of Iceland in 2016.

Throughout his career, Dr. Bjornsson has been recognized for both his clinical and scientific contributions. His accolades include the Frank Coulson, Jr. Award for Clinical Excellence (2012), the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award (2013), the Sir William Osler Young Investigator Award from the Interurban Clinical Club (2014), and the William K. Bowes Jr. Award in Medical Genetics (2014). He received a grant of excellence from the Icelandic Centre for Research in 2026 to study the molecular mechanisms of hypothermia.

Martin I Sigurðsson, MD, PhD – CMO

Dr. Sigurdsson is the Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Iceland, as well as a Chief of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Landspitali.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Iceland in 2009 while simultaneously pursuing a Ph.D. in genetics, which he completed in 2011. He did his training in anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. In 2016, he continued his training at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, specializing in cardiac and thoracic anesthesiology as well as critical care medicine (2016-2018). He has successfully completed U.S. board certifications in anesthesiology, perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, and critical care medicine.

Since returning to Iceland in 2018, Dr. Martin Ingi has been practicing as a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care at Landspitali while actively engaging in medical education and research. He was appointed full professor in 2019

A prolific researcher, he has made significant contributions to the fields of cardiac genetics, surgical outcomes, and critical care medicine. He has mentored numerous students at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. His research portfolio includes over 120 scientific publications. Amongst his prices are the Encouragement awards from The Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannis)

Styrmir Sigurjónsson, PhD – COO

Dr. Sigurjonsson is an experienced a technology and engineering executive with deep experience leading large-scale product development and digital infrastructure in regulated and data-intensive industries.

He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Iceland.

He spent over a decade at Natera in the United States, where he held several senior leadership roles and ultimately led global R&D, engineering, and data science organizations supporting advanced genomics and diagnostics platforms.

During his time at Natera, he was involved in the development of multiple commercially available products and participated in taking the company from its early start-up stages through employing thousands of employees and from multiple rounds of investing to being publicly traded on the NASDAQ stock market.

After returning to Iceland, he served as Managing Director of Information Technology and Chief Technology Officer at Arion Bank, where he led the bank’s technology strategy and modernization initiatives as part of the executive management team.

He has worked independently as a private investor since 2023 and with KALDUR since late 2025.
